LM317 as a 9V Regulated supply
The LM317 regulator is usually used as a variable supply and utilises a 5K pot for R2, however if you use a fixed resistor then the approximate formula for calculating R2 is shown.
The unregulated input needs to be a couple of volts higher than the output voltage that is required. Therefore for a +9V supply then about +11 volts would be necessary on the input to the chip.
